Lokve is a place located in the western part of Gorski Kotar, in the hinterland of the city Rijeka and Kvarner, on a plateau which rises 700 meters above sea level. Although it is very close to coastal line of Istria, Lokve are characterized by mountain climate, which are causing a strong and harsh winters, or mild and tolerable summers. This generous climate is causing a great natural enrichment, which dominates Lokve - the dense forests of beech, spruce and fir are the green heart of Croatia, as one of the largest and most beautiful green areas in the country. This green wonder are surrounding great giants, mountains Snježnik and Risnjak on one side, while on the other side are rising Bitoraj and Bjelolasica mountains.
Artificial lake Lokva made in 1954., is perfect  fitted into idyllic surroundings, and  it attracts attention of fans in sports activities, primarily fishing enthusiasts. In addition, in August there are organized meetings of cyclists and hikers around the beautiful shores of this lake. Among the other interesting things that one can see in this special place is mystical and magnificent caves Lokvarka and Forest Park Golubinjak.
Tourism in Lokve has developed long ago when building of Lužijska road started. That road, even today, runs right near Lokve, connecting it with Karlovac and Rijeka, which provides Lokve secure link with civilization.
