Prozura is one of the oldest settlements on the island of Mljet, hidden in the inland of the island under the hills of Muzanje and Spas. Spas (salvation) is not a random name for the hill under which this place is hiding, well protected from the view from the sea, which could save a head in the distant past centuries. There is the Kastio still there in the midst of the settlement, a square tower from the 17th century in which the population was hiding when they have noticed the pirate ships in the Mljet aquatorium. Prozura is mentioned in 1345 for the first time, and it has been inhabited constantly since its foundation until today. The inhabitants of the past lived mostly in fisheries and ships repairs, due to the harbour that they have founded in the nearest bay. Prozura harbour (Port) is the place where you can go for a swim and enjoy the sea fun today if you have rented an apartment, a room or a holiday house in Prozura on Mljet. Only 53 people live in Prozura, but almost all are engaged in tourism and catering, thus your total relaxation is guaranteed - let the hospitality of the locals lead you through the stories of the rich history of the place and through the gastronomic delights, the traditional Dalmatian dishes which can only be prepared by someone whose past generations were grown on fresh seafood and wild and ecologically grown herbs and plants on this magical Mediterranean island.
