The church of St. Anthony of Padua Gornji Tucepi

You have rented an apartment, a room or a vacation house in Tucepi or in the area. You need to run away just for a couple of hours from summer crowd, murmur and bustle from the coast of Makarska Riviera. If so, you'll easily find peace on the slopes of Biokovo and Gornji Tucepi lazy sprawled on it. Small village felt asleep on bushes and layers of white limestone, keeping hundreds year old beauty of stone and sparkling sun. Here you can rest is a thick shade of pines with enchanting song of crickets. In the middle of the village (it is really called Srid sela, meaning The center of the village) dominates monumental building which was built recently, comparing to stone houses surrounding. The church of St. Anthony of Padua was constructed at the change of 19th to 20th century in classicist manner. Thus, the poor village on the slopes of Biokovo gain lavish church whose interior wears all lush features of baroque. There are three baroque altars which were brought here from older church placed few hundreds meter away. Marble ornaments amplify the impression of glory and godliness which boasts the area of Tucepi. The older church was built much earlier in 1602. and it had the same name but it was destroyed by fire in 1891. Its foundations bear the church of St. Rok today.
