10 must see locations in Croatia

  • Published: 17/12/2009

Croatia has such a magical landscape where You won't be disappointed wherever Your mind or legs take You.
It's nature beauty is apparent in North of the state, where little villages enchant whit loveliness and hospitality, and, on South, places and  towns stoned in time, washed by the worm sea with thousand islands shining like the brightest pearls on the string.
To narrow Your hard decision about what to do and where to go, I’ll try to choose 10 must see locations in Croatia. It is hard for me choose only ten, since I found tiny little places for myself with no tourist glamor but they stickled to my hearth like they are glued and I come back every time I can. Until You find places like that for Yourself in Croatia, relax and enjoy our journey.

1.    I have to start with the capital city, Zagreb, which is the center of economic and cultural life in this small state. Even though in a summer season, Zagreb is a little bit to hot and infested because everyone is at sea, maybe it makes it more  interesting for sightseeing at that time, because there is no rush and the urban picture is clearer so you can enjoy it more.
The night life is lusty during the whole year because of few festivals and lots of concerts and there are 19 museums in the city center, so put on Your best shoes and go.

2.    Then if you proceed little bit further on the South, turn left and visit Istria, westernmost part of Croatia. Spend few dizzy days on Istrian wine roads. And if the road takes You through Poreč, Buzet, Pazin, Rovinj and Vodnjan,  you won't be just mixed by the taste and smell of excellent domestic wines but you’ll also feel mixed with the neat and bedazzled Istrian villages rich with cultural and historical legacy.

3.    Since You are already in Istria in summer time, you shouldn't miss concert  season of big world artists in Pula. Intriguing town offers you the best concert atmosphere in unique Arena, amphitheater from 1. century, where musical experience is not the only thing You'll never forget.

4.    Rich Istrian archipelago in embrace of the Kvarner bay, consists of many bigger islands. Everyone of them has it's own specificity and long history, but most interesting is island Lošinj, which is across Cres and Krk connected with the mainland. Small town Mali Lošinj, as the biggest town on island, provides a thread of urban charm in a sea colored symphony.

5.    If you are a fan of crazy beaches, summer parties all night long, and even all day long, just go proceed further on the South on a long and rocky island Pag. The beach is called Zrće and it's full of quality beach bars, where you will leave your hart and soul.

6.    From Pag You can go across the bridge, ridding for an hour or so, to a beautiful, king city Zadar. The peak of summer happenings is there, famous The Garden festival, which gathers the world famous musicians. But if You feel a bit tired and You wish for calmer activities during the daytime, pay a visit to some of Zadar's historical sacred facilities and mysterious Sea organs and solar play of colors called Greeting to a Sun. I’ll leave to You to find out what kind of thrill foresees You there.

7.    To sort Your minds from all this explosion of experiences, the best is to go in a bear wilderness and visit at least one of it's 89 islands in National park Kornati. Intoxicated by the sun and the sea, you will be astonished how simple nature beauty can be so powerful.

8.    Since You are in the heart of Dalmatia, and if You are with your family, visit Children festival in Šibenik which starts on the beginning of the summer. If You find Yourself at the end of the season there, don't leave if you didn't see Medieval fair who perfect fits this old town bounded by Medieval fortresses.

9.    Split is indispensable town on your journey. It has a magical mix of history and modern urban life; the palace, whose construction started in ancient year of 295., from where the town grew up, seems like a shell hiding a bright pearl in it’s intestine – narrow and stoned streets of Split. Enjoy in tasty Dalmatian food in many good restaurants with all Your senses and relax on the one of the few town beaches and have fun in the easy Split's night full of chances.

10.    And, sugar on top,Dubrovnik!
It is southernmost town in Croatia, but it's the world hottest destination these days. It is famous by it's old town where, under  stony, magical city walls, You can experience lively cultural takeoff. The whole county is proud of it’s glory history engraved in it’s stony facades and the rich tourist offer with lots of good restaurants and vivacious nightlife will leave You little time to rest. Above all, smiling Croatian hosts will invite you to stay in their comfortable apartment next year again. So You should!

I have to remind myself to report You about another 10 must see locations in Croatia some other time. There are so many of them; maybe I could just tell You a 100 must see locations in Croatia !
