The Badanj fortress is the ancient Roman fortress from the 4th century. It was built during the reign of Emperor Justinian to strengthen the Empire's borders because of the invasion of the barbarians from the east. It was damaged and abandoned after the strong earthquake wich had hit the nearby valley Vinodol in 1312. The specificity of Badanj is the stone water tank, which collected rainwater and thus had been a source of potable water. It was the most modern form of construction of such facilities back in those time. The popular promenade of Crikvenica, called the Highway of Love, will take you to Badanj. It is located 2 km away from the center, and also accessible through the shortest course, from the car park by foot. Badanj is a protected cultural monument, renewed and stored every year. It is the popular destination of Crikvenica throughout the whole year, and, therefore do not miss to visit this old mark of history.
