Company "Blue seagull" from Sukosan organized a donkey race back in 1968 in honor od early deceased donkey (Kenja) Vijola, named "Kenja Vijola Memorial". So, if you have rented an apartment, a room or a vacation house in Sukosan or destination, try not to miss this Sunday night when you can experience the traditional Dalmatian customs and familiar way of life that used to be just in the one place. All that was once meant a life for a man on this landscapes and without a life could not even imagine, is celebrated in Sukosan every year at the Sunday before the Sukosan traditional festivities on St. Cassian at August 13. On this day we can taste traditional Dalmatian dishes here, mainly those of fish and seafood, along with a few homemade glasses of wine. We can also witness a lamplight (svicarenje). Lamplight is the traditional way of fishing, takes place in the moonless nights. A feral (candle) is petted at the bow of the ship, than a fish that swim into the light is hunted with harpoons. Afterwards the fish swim to our plates in a delicious dishes that will impress our palates. Before tasting the fine food, we will meet tovar (donkey), the beat man's friend. This animal has built an entire Dalmatia, carrying a load on its back, which Dalmatian shoulders could not bare, and walk through paths where a vehiccle could never drive. Donkeys of today live a much comfortable life, like we do as well, thus there is no leack of enjoyment and fun in Sukosan as well. Even if it is in honor of a donkey.
