Especially if you go to Motovun Film Festival. This small town, full of history, it is sitting on a top of steep hill where from which one can take a wide gander of the lush green bowels of Istria. Motovun is a city, municipality and the best preserved medieval fortress in the region. Motovun seduces travelers and passers-by, offering unforgettable nights under the stars. Film festival was held in 1999 for the first time here. It was a small festival with just 7000 visitors in five days, mostly young people with backpacks on their shoulders. It became more famous over the years and it hosts up to 40,000 people today. It was created in response to the inevitability of American movies in local cinemas. The promotion of the film non-Hollywood movies is unpretentious and free from glamor made this Festival the one with the character. Screenings take place in two outdoor cinemas and in two closed cinemas, and last almost continuously, from 10 am until the dawn the next day. There are also concerts and a colorful bunch of film fans which keep the city awake for that five days in a year. The Motovun Film Festival had grown into one of the most famous festivals in the region, but fame has not spoiled it; still it remains the festival without the red carpet, but full of colorful joy. The nickname of it is `Woodstock movie '. It started with a non-competitive program, but changed that in time. During the Festival, Motovun is all about a film, even while its streets are dancing and singing all night long. Most of the visitors are accommodated in the camping field which is formed during the Festival So, if you want to capture a bed under someone's roof, you have to hurry up with reservations, because everyone wants to get to Motovun in July.
