Driving from Split towards south, it is easy to spot an unusual mountain Viter. It's above one of the most beautiful places of Dalmatian coast, well known for its long and magical pebble beaches. The place is called Zaostrog. The name came from Ostrog fortress, built in the mountain, above the peak Little Viter. Fortress is mentioned in papers of famous Byzantium emperor Constantine Porfirio, as the capital of Croatian state Pagania. Pagania had been at the peak of its power in 9th and 10th century, stretching from the river Neretva to Cetina with Pelješac, Brač, Hvar, Korčula and Mljet. This is a place of enormous beauty today, and it can all be seen from the peak of Viter. Everyone who have rented an apartment, a room or a vacation house, on this gorgeous area is attracted by Viter, the place where the most stunning photos can be taken. Sill, it is recommendable that you find a guided tour on the mountain. If you are not in your best shape, remain on the magical beaches of Zaostrog. The peak of Viter may not be close as it seems, it is on 769 NM. Here, on the shore of Zaostrog, one can spot the most unique phenomena on the whole Earth. Believe it or not, the Sun comes out twice in a day here! For the first time, it peaks out above Viter, and, as if it plays a hide and seek game with the mountain, it emerges above it after 20 something minutes. So, take your camera and observe Viter!
