Krka National Park is another protected area whose beauty is enchanting to all visitors of Sibenik-Knin County. Krka River is certainly one of the most beautiful Croatian rivers on the whole length of its flow, 72.5 kilometres in total. Although it is only at the 22nd position in Croatia by its lenght, it is one of the most gorgeous occurrences of water reserves. It springs on the slopes of Mount Dinara, just 3,5 kilometres from Knin. Krka's speciality is its flow through the karst landscape where it overcomes a drop of 224 meters above sea level on its journey to the sea, creating the miraculous shapes - fallen waterfalls. With its seven waterfalls, Krka is a wonderful game of nature and a karst phenomenon. Krka National Park was proclaimed in 1997 and covers areas from the early Croatian fortresses Necven and Trosenj to the Sibenik bridge, including 3.5 kilometres of the river Cikola flowing into Krka. National Park Krka occupies the spaces of cities where you can find comfortable accommodation in private rentals of Skradin, Knin, Drnis and Sibenik. There are several entrances to the National Park, including an attractive boat ride from Skradin, and numerous excursion boats depart from different parts of the Sibenik Riviera. Once you step into the Park area, there are many educational paths and lookout points that overwhelm the lush Krka waters and take you to gardens of Eden. The most famous waterfalls are Skradinski buk and Roski slap which is easiest to reach by boat from the first one mentioned. On this ride you can visit Visovac island, famous for the church and monastery where Franciscans still live. There is also Orthodox Krka Monastery, Ozidana Cave, Manojlovi Waterfalls, Burnum and many other localities as a testimony to the irresistible junction of the natural and cultural heritage of the Krka River. You can dine in some of the picturesque restaurants with the noise of waterfalls, featuring delicious specialities of fruit water. The ticket prices range from 30 to 180 kuna depending on the age of the year and the sites you intend to visit. Do not miss the view of the Jaruga hydroelectric power plant, built according to designs of famous Nikola Tesla, which gave the town of Sibenik public lighting far from 1895. Thus Sibenik became the first city in the world with public lighting on alternating current, and the Jaruga hydroelectric power plant was started only three days later than Niagara Falls.
