It is believed that some centuries ago, a Roman soldier named Gurianum received this place as a gift. Later, Guran got its name. Today, on the hill south of the small village, there are ruins of the ancient Gurianum. In the 1900s, an ancestor bought a building in Guran, not knowing what impact this would have on the fourth generation of the family together with the children and grandchildren. In 2004, the family began restoring the building, keeping in mind the preservation of its local characteristics (stone and wood) and the original beauty of the Istrian landscape in which the house is located. Guran has a significant historical and cultural heritage, its remains are stored in the Vodnjan palace, and today there are remains of several churches / basilicas. His medieval name was Gropi or Old Guran, and the place was first mentioned in 1908 as Guranis. Gropi / Stari Guran are 100 meters from today's settlement.
