Lisinski Concert Hall in Zagreb has been the central venue of the city's cultural life since December 29, 1973. The hall is named after Vatroslav Lisinski, the composer of the first Croatian opera, Love and Malice. Lisinski has always been a synonym for an outstanding musical experience, hosting eminent world musicians. Its stage has seen performances by Tina Turner, Sting, Charles Aznavour, Dizzy Gillespie, Cesária Évora, Omara Portuondo, and many others, along with the Bolshoi Theatre, philharmonic orchestras from La Scala in Milan, Israel, Vienna, London, and more. Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall building is located near the center of Zagreb, less than 2 kilometers from the main square, between the Main Railway Station and Vukovarska Avenue. The interior is divided into the Grand Hall, spanning over 2,000 square meters with 1,847 seats, the Small Hall with 304 seats, four meeting lounges, three bars, and a spacious foyer. The foyer of the Grand Hall is reserved on Saturdays for a dance entertainment program that follows the concert and artist meet-and-greet in the Grand Hall. The Lisinski Saturdays concept has been running since 1981 and was awarded the City of Zagreb Prize for its success in promoting the world's most popular ensembles and musicians.
