Historic city of Trogir - UNESCO World Heritage

Historic city of Trogir is situated on an island belted by the sea, overlooking the mainland and the coast of the island of Čiovo. Today, all this area is connected by bridges and embankments, and the marvellous core of the city has remained inscribed in stone. The centuries were carved here, in the colonnade of alleys, squares, palaces, and houses, encircled by the walls and towers. The walls were mostly destroyed in the 19th century, only the southern part remained preserved. The south-western edges of the city core are marked by the fortress Kamerlengo, which dates from the 15th century, and the northern with the preserved loggia, which used to be the shelter for occasional passengers who would arrive after the city gate was closed. The sounding name Kamerlengo belonged to the Venetian clergyman who led finance here, while today the fortress serves as a summer stage. Each house in the centre of Trogir is showing its famous past, bearing a coat of arms or an inscription. Most of the palaces and houses originate from the 13th century, so if you have found accommodation in Trogir in the city centre, you will be staying in the times of Venetians and medieval knights and ladies. The beauty of the historic town of Trogir belongs to the UNESCO World Heritage List. Discover the magical streets and facades of the city and look for the cathedral with Radovan's gates, the prince's palace, the Ćipiko palace, the church of St. Barbara, the tower of St. Mark and other signs of the famous Trogir history written in stone. A walk in Trogir is a walk through the centuries of the Mediterranean and the development of Western civilization from the Antique to our days.
