Vrana Knights Days Pakostane

If you have rented apartment, room or vacationb house in Pakoštane or Zadar and surroundings at the last weekend in August, you might find yourself as a protagonist of medieval tales. There are Knights Days in Pakostane and Vrana at that time, and the streets are crowded with Templars, Papal messengers, Priors, the Hospitallers ... This medieval fair invokes the spirits of the Ottomans and Templars, reconstructing history in all its grandeur. Knights and horsemen in colorful costumes, falconers, mediaeval folks, jugglers, actors and poor, are relegated from Medieval tents, reviving foggy times of the 17th century and earlier, when this place had a great importance in historical military and political scene. In addition to this fair, as a reminder of the days of pride and glory there is Han Yusuf Maskovića in Vrana, the building which was renovated in 2013. It is the western most existing monument of the Ottoman Empire in the world. It was built in the 17th century. Yusuf Masković who was born here in Vrana (or Pakostane) who managed to become Admiral of the then Turkish fleet did it. Vrana Knights Days are two-day excitement where you can follow the battle between East and West at the foot Maskovic Han, with the manifestation ending with the reconstruction oh naval battle in the early evening on the last day of the event in Pakostane. There were two sailing ships involved in the battle, and a variety of small boats. Simulation of sound and lighting effects will undoubtedly lead you to a distant history when such battles were common on our seas. Fertile Vrana field has always attracted invaders due to sources of potable water. Those fruits are real feast for the taste buds today and you will be able to treat them with medieval pies and stews, but also with the best of the sea and the land in the seductive dance of smell and taste. Vrana Knights Days are the international event with the participating groups from Slovakia, Hungary and other countries. You can participate as well: by playing medieval games. There is a huge interest in games which are more than half a millennium old; people have changed clothes and lifestyle, but not the spirit! Bread and circuses!
