The Underwater Museum near Trogir

The Underwater Museum near Trogir is not the first such museum in the world, but it is the first museum settled under the sea surface with 50 statues presenting 14 crucifixes of the Way of the Cross. "Via Crucis" is the name of this underwater adventure located a few kilometers west of the historical center of Trogir. The museum was founded in 2017 and it has become one of the favorite diving sites already in its first year of existence. The sculptures are in human size, made of ferocement technique - a semi-solid reinforced concrete that guarantees durability in extreme conditions in sea water. All the sculptures were made by Valentino Val, a potter from Petrinja, which is a continental Croatian destination with a long time tradition in pottery and sculpturing. Each exhibited statue is unique, and the interest in this tourist attraction is only growing. If you rent an apartment, room or vacation house in Trogir and its surroundings and you are a fan of a big blue, explore the Adriatic sea in the company of the sculptures of the Via Crucis. Diving in the underwater museum does not require special skills so beginners can try it. The statues are set at a small depth of just 4 to 5 meters, while the statue of Jesus Christ is bigger - even 8 meters long, so its installation required the depth of 12 meters. The underwater museum is located in the picturesque bay of Jelinek with a beautiful pebble beach where the pleasure is to stay below and above the sea surface.
