There is a city worth a visit which can be found in the eastern Croatian, Vukovar-Srijem County, and is called Županja. Although it is the third largest city in the region, there are just over 12,000 residents in Županja. The wide streets and low Posavina houses are imprinted into the fertile valley through which runs one of the largest Croatian river, the Sava river. Tame is the most common epithet that describes this region, and this adjective is so prominent here. Županja is the peaceful place on the crossroads of roads, compounds Europe and the East, a bridge between Croatia and BiH. The name of the city is found in the 16th century on a large map of Hungary in historical documents, and after the long Turkish siege, Županja became the seat districts in the Austro-Hungarian Empire and later in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. Županja town today offers a unique holiday in a grassy bed of the Sava river and the opportunity to explore the natural beauty of this micro-region, known for its hunting grounds and exceptional cuisine.
