The Church of St. Mary Virgin in Crikvenica is at the estuary od Dubracina creek to the sea. There is the old church site (named Crikva), topology which gave Crikvenica its name. Count Nikola Frankopan had built a new church there along with the new monastery. With the granting in 1412 the monastery belongs to Paulini monarchs and that date is celebrated today as the Day of the City when Crikvenica was first mentioned in history. In the following period (17th century) the church bears baroque style. The convent, which is now transformed into Hotel Kastel (1987), has the cylindrical tower (Kastel-bunk) and an enclosed courtyard with a water tank, along with the magnificent bell tower, leaning against the church. On the August 14 Crikvenica marks its day with a big party, and on August 15 celebrates the Feast of the Assumption. These are the most solemn days of Crikvenica, marked by a huge parade that goes from the church in town, and Holly Mass. The church with the castle is one of the symbols of Crikvenica, which is full of tourists in the summer who have rented holiday accommodation in Crikvenica, and, therefore, the must-see place.
